CRNA jobs are held by a certified registered nurse anesthetist or a CRNA nurse that has obtained certification with the board in anesthesia and also a graduate education. CRNAs work with in the medical field with a variety of medical professionals including surgeons, anesthesiologists and other qualified healthcare professionals to perform epidurals, spinal taps, peripheral nerve blocks, sedations, general anesthetic, and local anesthetic.
Steps required to become a CRNA include:
1. A Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or other appropriate baccalaureate degree.
2. Obtain license as a registered nurse.
3. At least one year of experience as a registered nurse in an acute care setting.
4. Graduation with a master’s degree from an accredited nurse anesthesia educational program.
5. Pass the national certification examination after graduation.
CRNAs are required to recertify every two years by:
• Obtaining a minimum of 40 hours of approved continuing education
• Having documented substantial anesthesia practice
• A current state licensure
• Certify they are healthy and nothing can physically or mentally impair their ability to practice anesthesia.
